Perpetually Perplexed

Today I was sad. No, this is not going to be another one of my endless stories about my "victimhood". No, I was sad because "Pretty little liars", the TV serial was over. May be for 100th time. Out of which I may have watched 50 of. We have shared so many meals together. Me, Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer. No, not Alison. I don't like her. She was wicked, once. Correction, I would bring in my meals and sit with Zee cafe. The story is about 5 childhood friends from a small town who are being harassed (!) by an anonymous 'A'.  A would ask them to do bad things failing which their dark secrets would be reveled. They are unable to find out who this A is, and why is she "harassing" them. For over 8 years!!! Alison, one of the liars goes missing presumed to be dead. But the turn of events convince the girls that "A" is Alison. After many episodes, Alison reappears, who is also a victim of A. Then there is a blind but vicious girl...

I was unable to share the previous post to google+. SO mind is filled with that. Anyways, how many of you watch Scandal and how many watch "House of cards"? Two presidents, two stories, but how completely different. In scandal - the president looks tormented - always. He is caught between his duty as a "President", his beautiful wife Mellie and his mistress Olivia. He is no where near the ruthless, diplomatic and cunning politician. For those things, he has Olivia. But in House of cards, the president is an anti-hero. He is devious and knows how to get the power and how to retain it. And he uses anyone and anything for that goal. His wife is his partner in crime. They some how mislead the sitting president, and get the throne. But then even his wife will be against him. One should agree that house of cards is more realistic. Scandal is just melodramatic soap.

We like our lead actors to be weird, eccentric, rude, self-centered, middle aged, unkempt some times but extremely good in their jobs, so that their superiors can not fire them no matter how badly they behave. Where as lead actresses are good looking, young and always abiding the rules. Take Dr.House for example - he is always in pain, he limps, he insults every one, including his colleagues, friends, boss and even patients. But we are supposed to believe he is good at heart and we should commiserate with him because of his physical and emotional pain. Why is there no TV serial where a woman is rude, eccentric, badly dressed, middle aged and of course in some kind of pain? Are there no women in this world who are rude, who do not care for appearances but still are very very good at their jobs. You do not have to have a pretty face to be good doctor or a good cop. Why no story revolves around these women?

I was reading about Karnataka minster planning to spend the night in grave yard in an effort to eradicate superstitions. And was reminded of what I heard yesterday on TV. The program is in Kannada TV channel. The show is a cookery show. The guest is making groundnut chutneypudi and giving many home remedies for different ailments. So far, so good. Then there is a caller who asks this guruji about her diabetes. And the answer made me surprised and then furious. He was saying he will hypnotize the lady and gradually she will realize her diabetes is caused by some paapa - sin, done in previous birth. And after 2- 3 months of this treatment she will be completely cured.  Diabetes is caused when the body is not making insulin. This should have been his answer and he could have given some recipes meant for diabetic patients.  Now the serious question is why do regional language channels show such programs? The programs which instead of enlightening and educating the people, ...
