Fear

Among all freedoms to humans, freedom from fear is very important. Because most of our actions and inaction are controlled by this fear.

We see injustice, but we dare not protest it. Because we are afraid of antagonizing people or authorities.

We, most of Indian women wrap ourselves in 4,5 layers of clothing. Lest men feel attracted by us and try to harm us or pass lewd comments. And we are afraid, these comments some how reflect on us, not on them.

Family members of some of us go even further and ask us to cover our faces too with a burqa or a ghoonghat

We see our boss fire a co-worker for trivial matter, and we feel angry. But we do not protest. We have to protect our own a###es.

Some of us - men and women sometimes do muster enough courage and protest injustice. But inevitably we will be punished - get scolded or beaten, or get arrested on some false charges.

What ever happened to the dream of our forefathers who said?

"Where the mind is without fear
And the head is held high."

Will a bird in the wild go hungry just because one fruit tree dries up? If one flower withers, will not the bee get any flowers? If one haughty king is miserly, will there be no patrons (of poetry) on this earth?

Learning from wise men, reading from good books, observing others  work and learning from good company, these are the ways a man becomes omni-scient (sarvajna - one who knows everything). Just like many streams join together to make an ocean.

Shantam papam

I plucked some leaves from my kitchen garden for (cooking) making tambuli in the evening. Imagine, I who can not read small letters, even in broad daylight, plucked some dodda patre leaves in the dark kitchen garden. I tried dry roasting them with coriander leaves. Suddenly I saw something whitish. A worm? What sin I was about to commit? I was about to feed non-veg, that too a worm, to two pious brahmins. Threw out the whole thing. Should I wear glasses even when I am cooking?
I hate these chalis. So never wear them. It hurts my nose. I go to a super market. I read a box of something to buy. I can not read its price. I ask the sales boy/girl, what is the price. They will think that I am illiterate. But see, I can't help it. Can't these people print atleast prices in large print for forty plus people.
After a long time today, I tried reading my daily horoscope from newspaper. Could not read anything. At this exponential decay rate, the day is not far when my vision would be zer…

How to get straight hair

Straight hair, silky and shiny hair, lustrous hair!!! How do these terms matter to us, who have crossed the expiry date? But when I saw that one of the prizes is Galaxy Tab, I decided anything for a Galaxy tab.

Step 1: Head out in my scooty which also looks tired and aged. Come near a Kirana store and stop. But where is the Kirana store, it has changed into a super market. There goes the plan of asking the shop keeper to give me one bottle of Sunsilk straight hair shampoo.

Step 2: Go to a super market and head for the shampoos section and take out a bottle and move it close to your eyes and then far, then again near and again far. Shoppers around me wonder if I am looking at some optical illusion. No I can read only it is sunsilk, but is it straight hair shampoo or ordinary or anti-dandruff or some thing else. Why do I always forget to wear glasses when out shopping?

Step 3: Ask the sales girl whether this is straight hair shampoo from sunsilk, giving her the bottle. She first stares…
