Out of the frying pan to fire

I thought I am spending more time in system recovery and factory reset and services, and very less time in aapt and adb. And of course the culprit is the universally hated  but universally used operating system - Windows.. So I spent a lot of money and bought an ubuntu laptop. Now I am spending all my time in firefox followed by sudo apt-get's. If the MS product treats us as toddlers, this OS treats us as Einsteins. And Dell which has so many Linux products should have guessed by now, that some simple apps should come pre-installed.  I had to install cheese for webcam. I failed in installing sound. Now you can imagine my plight with IDE.  Any ways, more opportunity to learn the OS only developers use. Yay me!!
Loved this Robin Williams quote “A woman would never make a nuclear bomb. They would never make a weapon that kills. They’d make a weapon that makes you feel bad for a while.”

Start Menu

Windows operating systems are like our lives. We hate them with all our heart. But still we have to live with them. Windows 8.1 has this start menu and start menu button which receive more hatred than other windows components. They do nothing but take us to a tile of windows "APPS". If we wanted APPS, we would have used one of many mobiles we have. No one uses this start button. May be developers and pros use it for start+R or start+X for running a command or starting command prompt, wordpad, notepad or mspaint etc. So most control operations are done by moving the mouse to bottom right corner and getting search. How very inconvenient! Not any more. I found this beautiful program called classic shell - a simple exe file which when installed gives us the earlier start menu of windows - 7 or earlier. Such a relief! You can download the program from classicShell

Tired

मज़धार में नैय्या डोले, तो माँझी पार लगाये माँझी जो नाव डुबोये उसे कौन बचाये   I am really tired. Tired of other things and most important of all, laptop problems. Yes, my laptop again gave a problem and am still unable to fix it since yesterday night. My computer - all my computers, previous desktop, laptop and current laptop give me so much problem that I can factory reset them even in my dream. Is it bad karma? Have I hurt any computers in my previous life? But in my previous life there were no computers.  I thought I would write a tell-all post either in fictious form or simple bloggy form. I even imagined all the people I will blame and in what words. But all my life, I have done things to prove the world wrong - unsuccessfully each time. Never have I done things for my own life. OK, let me change it. Let the others - if there are such people  get the satisfaction of causing me terrible times. Begining of this month I have set the OS to factory conditi...

Fasal Bima

Fasal Bima - Crop insurance Today's big news is rolling out of Crop insurance scheme for farmers with as low premium as 1.5 to 2%. It is great considering around 300,000 farmers have committed suicide in India according to Guardian. Of course these foreigners always try to paint us in bad light. But still. And things this year are worse. Because of drought and unseasonal rain and floods in some areas. So the yojana seems to be a good solution. But is it really? We have had crop insurance earlier. But only around 23% farmers used the scheme. The reason is not difficult to fathom. Farmers who are illiterate or semi-literate will not even know about the existence of such a scheme. No call center people will call them asking them to apply for fasal bima. And there are no advertisements in TV either. Even if a farmer insures his crop, by the time he proves the failure of his crop and gets the insured money he would have gone up - where he will not have to worry about rains and cr...

Lit motors car-motorcycle

Lit motors has the amazing car - which is not a car nor a bike, but a hybrid of both. It is compact like a bike and is to be driven like a bike. But has the stability of a car. And protects you from sun and rain, like a car. This stability is achieved using gyroscopes - they say. When I saw it (again) in discovery channel I vaguely remembered blogging about it. So I am writing about it again.  When I googled I got an article (from 2013) from WheelsUnplugged which said "the company has plans to sell its vehicle in china and India. And in India it will be priced around 4.4 lakhs. " I don't know what happened after that. Shall we all book one as soon as it launches here in India?

Name change!

In Kannada when one challenges, he/she says "nanna hesaru ABCD nee alla" or "nanna hesaru badalayistiini."  if he/she loses challenge then his/her name will be changed. I did not lose any such challenge. But I am having identity crisis. Identity crisis - at 50? Instead of midlife crisis? (Or midlife crisis is only male phenomenon?)  (I think), people do not know what I do with my laptop the whole day. What would an old woman do with a laptop whole day? So I want to tell everyone that I am a developer and my apps are really in android app market.  So in the android market I have modified my developer name to Usha Hegde from Bilekal Hegde. Bilekal was never my name. Bilekal is a tiny village in  Karnataka, India where my fore-fathers lived.  So if you want to look up my apps (I hope you want to), search for Usha Hegde in google play. And do download the apps and give some helpful review and support me :)
