RTH - right to health

I had been to a hospital. And I paid 70 rupees for consultation fees and 70 rupees for scanning. No, no, I really did not miss out a zero there. It is not seven hundred, but seventy.. And I am not talking about the visit thirty years back, but only last week. And in Bangalore.

Yes, there are some charitable hospitals which still offer good health care services at affordable prices. This one is run by Udupi math. Though it is almost 15 kms from my house, and even though there are many hospitals near my home, I went there because I do not believe in most of the hospitals. They ask you to get so many tests done and prescribe something which most of the times do not cure you. All the while they extract as much money as possible. And I know most of you have a similar opinion of the hospitals around you, but have to visit them because there is no other alternative.

If we complain like this, what about poor people? How do they afford the medical bills? Should we let them simply suffer because they can not afford exorbitant fees of these hospitals? We hear about people dying because they can not afford a kidney transplant.Or dying because they could not take the patients to the hospital in time.

So why can't have many such charitable hospitals? Why can't religious maths (not maths as the subject , but matha - kannada word for religious organization) start such hospitals? Why religious organizations? Because they have lot of money, given by people - scared people, scared politicians etc. And if they do not dispense it, it will cause even more havoc, when they die. So if these people start hospitals, people bless them and may be God may be able to forgive them a little bit

And media can also help. When I am writing this, NDTV greenathon is being telecast. Similar to that program, TV channels can try to raise money for charitable hospitals, one good hospital per district. We get easily influenced by what we watch on TV.

And the best solution would be right to health where any hospital would provide health care to BPL families taking nominal fees. Now you ask me, how are you sure that BPL card is genuine? When the uid cards are completely prepared, you can know all the details about the person and you will come to know what is the professions of people and hence guess what will be their income.

So when an old retired person or poor lady walks into a hospital, he/she need not faint hearing the bills to come, instead he/she can smile thinking that he too can be cured.

Bharatha - 2. UrdhvaRoma

I wanted to write about Karna as my part 2 of Bharatha because he is the real tragic hero of MahaBharatha. But net is filled with writings about him. So let me write about little known son of Arjuna called Urdhvaroma. And I don't want to write as twisted tale but as I have heard it from my Yankatte (atte - aunt). Yankatte was my mother's aunt and she was widowed in childhood. She would spend some time in my granny's house and some time in her husband's house. She would tell us all beautiful stories. UrdhvaRoma was a son of Arjuna (I think. Or may be Bhima's son. I don't remember clearly. ) He was living in the forest. One day when he was practicing archery, Arjuna and Krishna were passing by. Krishna indicated Arjuna to hide and watch. This boy shot an arrow to a large tree. And all the leaves of the tree fell down except for 5 and a half leaves. Krishna and Arjuna came forward and asked him what was all this about. The boy told " After few years there wi
