How to burn your fingers aka ellunde

Ellunde recipe (Sesame seeds sweet ball )

Take a pan, a thick pan. Wash it with water  and then keep it on stove. Once the stove is dry - (did you ignite the stove?), keep pouring sesame seeds to the pan, until your outer voice (as opposed to inner voice) says "that is enough". Roast it till seeds turn slightly reddish. At least some of them. Now add liquid jaggery to the pan. You do not have liquid jaggery? Close this window and go back to facebook. Add liquid jaggery to the pan, again until your outer voice asks you to stop.

Keep mixing until the smell changes - yes, not the color. Until you get a very mild jaggery burnt smell. Remove the pan from the fire. And wait for 10-15 minutes. Keep checking if the ellu-bella mix is not too hot to touch. Once you can touch it, take a spoonful of mix in your palm and try to roll it into a ball. Wait till the hot sesame seeds burn your hand and also stick to your hand. Do not run to sink to wash off. Keep rolling like a brave girl. And lo, you can make the ball. Make sure you do not curse.

Repeat this process, until all the ellu is in the form of Unde and take it to the God's room. Hoping he will forgive your laziness, and all other assorted sins because you made his favorite sweet.

Note : Why is it not in my other blog - which is supposed to be recipes blog? Well, because  I find the post very funny.

Hair care and me ??

I delayed writing this post for I was not sure whether I am entitled to write this post. If I put my photo along, I should also add that I do not use Dove shampoo, so that it will serve as a warning to people , if they don't use a proper shampoo, their hair might also look like mine :-( :-( :-( Things (on my head) were not this bad always. I had long black and reasonably thick hair, nicely plaited, when I was a child. In fact I would be sitting on my plaits - they were so long. And to top it all, one of relatives used to say " you say you will be taller and your hair will say it will be longer" or something like that. We Hegdes from Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Shimoga districts of Karnataka belong to a brahmin sub sect called Havyaka Brahmins. We have some traditions of our own, a language of our own - which is slightly different from kannada.
