I do not very well all these political science terms. I thought democracy is rule of people. People elect their representatives and these representatives rule the nation on behalf the people who voted them. But I hear every day people saying that Anna Hazare is disrupting the democratic process. If a person protests peacefully, then how does that disrupt democratic process. Or is my knowledge of the term democracy wrong? Does the term mean, that people who sit in parliment/legislative assemblies rule. Period. So they have right to everything and common man has right to almost nothing. Is this how it is?
When I watch the discussions on the television channels regarding Anna Hazare's fast everyday, I feel enraged so much so that I want to murder these anchors. I can understand political parties opposing Jan Lokpal bill. They will lose quite a lot if a strong anti corruption body is established. So they go to any lengths to stop this. Some non-congress parties are supporting Anna, not because they are against corruption. They are just trying to take advantage of public support to Anna's movement. Not that people are fooled by these parties. But what I do not understand is media especially TV channels trying to find fault with the movement. In yesterday's discussion in CNN-IBN Sagarika was asking " So you say it just middle class movement" Then again she was saying "You are saying it is just upper caste movement". Corruption is not just affecting middle class. It is affecting each and every common man in India. People have come to streets because they are the ones who pay their hard earned money for taxes, only to realize that these taxes are not used for building the nation, instead is going to swiss banks of corrupt politicians. They are the ones who have to struggle with bad roads, power cuts, inflation, bad hospitals, exorbitant medicine prices. And they see that thousands of crores of money meant for improving all these are given to channelized elsewhere.
So they are angry. But even though they are very angry, the protests are completely peaceful unlike bundhs called by political parties.
I do not blame the people who say mera neta chor hai. This neta might not have stolen from others. But he has stolen from the government which is also theft.
