Unethical and immoral

Remember the good old days of PC where if you hover over a button or text, it will give us some helpful hints. Mobiles don't do that. I think now even pc programs don't that. And that creates lots of difficulties for beginners to the digital world. So I was searching for some helpful videos on how to use whatsapp. And I found few good ones. But I came across real bad ones. So these people are posting "tutorials" on how to view others' whatsapp messages.  The question is - is this ethical, legal or moral? OK, one exceptional case could be parental monitoring. But imagine how easily some one can stalk a woman or a girl using such methods. Imagine you leave your phone on your desk for a few minutes in your office. Your colleague can use your phone in this time to hack into your whatsapp account. Who are these people who brazenly put such videos to "help" others.  Why is our government banning such videos?  Next should we expect a youtube v...
Socrates was a Greek philosopher who laid the foundations for modern western philosophy. But he was punished with death sentence by the government. He was asked to drink poison and he did so. Instead of trying to escape from the prison, his followers suggested it and were willing to help him. But no, he accepted the punishment and drank the poison. Now let us come to the reason or his crime. His crime was impiety and spoiling the minds of young people. In those days, in Greece, people believed in multiple Gods and these Gods were not exactly benevolent and not very omniscient. But our Socrates thought that Gods should be benevolent, truthful, authoritative, and wise. So he did not believe in the Gods citizens believed. And so was executed. So can I say "religion - causing the deaths of intellectuals since before Christ era.  "

Blag

The problem with solitude is you do not have a definite work to do. Don't have to cook, don't have to fight, don't have to clean. So what do you do? What does a house wife do if she doesn't cook and clean? I am not an ordinary house wife as my spouse sarcastically says always and proud of this fact. I blog or rather blag - blah blah blah ...g. and I code. And of course there are TV shows - at least one show at a time which needs my complete devotion. But even then by evening you are bored. So I took out book by Thitch Nath Han and read one complete page!  I started reading outlook- the indian magazine. But I did not find any article to my liking. So I started reading tweets. And that depressed me literally - did you know that now even Oxford dictionay has added a new meaning to literally which means figuratively ? What depressed me was the way in which netizens berate the people who do not agree with them or more importantly their leader. What colorful langua...

News

I saw new TV show called "the Newsroom" (Fx - 10pm week nights). The story really made me think. They are a TV channel. They get some news about a military operation where to save two Americal soldiers, they drop biological weapon on a village killing the entire village The channel broadcasts the news realizing too well what a great risk they are taking. Will we be able to do that? Will any of our Indian channels broadcast such a wiki-leaks kind of story about our government? Not the previous but the current government? You tell me. OK. Will I write about such a story, even if I were to know such a story? (So ludicrous,  the idea that a lone house wife crouching in a corner of her house finding about such a classified secret). I would start giving justifications " See I am in a difficult place right now. My neighbors are ganging up against me and trying to create all kinds of troubles for me. So I can not take that risk right now". But this is called not wa...

Ramblings

Day before was like Alice's quote in Alice in the wonderland You need to keep running in order to stay in the same place. And yesterday was entire day is fruitless or is it futile? And today morning I got something done. Am not sure whether I am going in right direction though. So day before my ubuntu system started lagging a lot. Like I should go, make a cup of tea and come back to just get the terminal started. Or system monitor, or firefox. Or any other command. What the hell is happening? Why is it acting up? I tried various fixes - what ever I could fathom. Which is not much. I type so many sudo commands - do I really know what are they? So half a day was spent on that. And again the monitor got dim. Finally it turned out that problem was with accessibility bus setting. I am not even using any one of the accessibility features. I had simply deleted some lines in the setting file. After adding them again, system became normal. Thank God, I did not have to re inst...
Do I love Aunty Acid quotes? Of course, yes. Because I can relate to her. Though I keep assuring myself that I am not so old nor so heavy. Don't you love her! Hm... Everyday! Sad and true

No more fights

All this started way back. Was it 10 years ago? I suddenly could not access psychology today website. I downloaded not my favorite chrome browser. I tried many tricks I knew at that time. All in futile. So I gave up but did not let go. Why am I bringing it again? Today suddenly pinterest - the site which shows us all pretty pins of images stopped working. I tried so many things in ubuntu - after googling them. I wasted a complete half day in this. Then I thought that the problem is with Linux. Windows is not so complex, I can see what is happening there. So let my try the site in windows system. Of course it did not work. Turned out that the problem was with ISP. I am no longer using BSNL - after getting completely tired of their frequent problems and lame excuses. Now this is a private ISP and supposedly good one. But why are they blocking pinterest for me? But no. I do not have any energy to fight with one more ISP or one more any one. I am in such a situation that even my s...

Meaning

There is a large tree in front of our house. And we both protect the tree from different kinds of invaders. May be we are wrong. May be Trees are bad. They drop leaves and leaves make our courtyard dirty. But we believe that trees help  our city and our earth. So the other day I noticed a very small sachet of turmeric powder and vermilion below the tree. I was intrigued. Because there is no God there. But do I get tempted to install  a God there! To stop the street and other dogs from defecating there.  But do dogs see a small picture and realize it is God and it sacrilegious to shit there? I don't know. Let us not try to contemplate who if any one placed these packets there. Who would want to harm me and for what reason and in what different ways? No that topic becomes a mindless blame game - like congress bjp fight. So I saw these packets and showed them to my domestic help next morning. She was terrified. She asked me not to touch them. But I just...

My appy days

Well. The current app is quite simple. Few forms and a database. So I thought it will not be challenging (enough to make me continue ). But how wrong was I! To start with, I had to struggle with layouts. I thought gridlayout - the one I had never used before, could be good. And it said it needed sdk 14 and above. Fine i will go with that because who has a phone older than kitkat. If there are some people, they will not download any apps. So I tried neatly giving textviews and editexts in gridlayout. Unlike table layout, I need not mention row each time. But it was difficult. No matter what I do, the second column would go beyond the screen. I tried various combinations and finally realized that I should not use width and heights for views within the layout. Who knew! And then came the simple spinner. I should show existing values and should be able to add a new value. I could not. I tried a tweak or several tweaks shown in  google suggestions. But now the new value will im...

Never update

We read in our school about Budhdha -that his first preaching is "Aseye dukhkhakke mUla"  Greed is the root cause of all misery. How true. I was happily coding in my newly found ubuntu android. And browsing as well ( browsing more and coding less). Then an idea struck me. Remember the good old days where we had window-ish pull down menu for all programs in a Linux system. Now even windows does not have pull down menus. So I came across an article about how to install that 'classic' gnome menu in ubuntu. Yes, I want that menu. Because current dash system lets us search for programs. How do we search when we don't know the name (or don't know what we are searching for). So I installed it. And while at it, I even updated firefox. Since many many years, my paronoidism, paranoidy or rather paranoia has a major entry - update. Remember the days when you were informed that "now windows will update. Do not switch off" and the screen will freeze for ...
