She was a sweet little girl. Chubby cheeks, dimples in these cheeks, full of laughter and vivaciousness. One day she did what changed her life for ever. She fell in love!
People accepted this and decided to marry her to the boy of her choice. Not actually a boy, he was in his early 30s and she was just sixteen. But he was a good boy, Parents were good and they were of same caste, sub-caste. They were financially well to do unlike the girls' parents. Girls' father is not very intelligent and mother is not worldly wise. And the girl had too many siblings.
So they thought it is a blessing in disguise. They might have found it difficult to find a match for her. So they happily married the girl to her sweet heart. And then they lived happily ever after.
Living happily ever after is a myth. The girl saw to her horror that his occasional drinking and playing of cards did not remain occasional. He started losing lot of money in these and hardly ever paid any attention to the areca fields. His parents washed off their hands.
Now 20 years later, you can see this sweet little girl in many weddings. She cooks there! She cooks in others houses, she goes to the fields and works there. With occasional help of her brothers, she manages the run the house hold. She is also sending her daughter to college. Her husband sleeps whole day and he goes to town when ever he gets any money, spends it all on cards and drinks and returns only after his pocket is empty.
We all know many such women, who work, work very hard and run the house hold. And they make a point to give the best possible education to their children. Fathers of these children, they come home, shout at their wives, beat their wives, eat the food cooked by these wives from the money earned by these wives and then go to sleep. Some of these fathers are better, they even snatch, steal the money from their wives.
