I am feeling really sad to hear the debate over why NRN should not be inaugurating the Vishwa Kannada Sammelana. I do not think there is any one better qualified than him for this position.
Once upon a time when many of you were still children, in 1991, India had to pledge its gold to IMF to procure a loan. Our economy was really bad. We were a developing country which was almost synonymous with poor country. Today in 2011, we are a global power to reckon with. Our economy is one of the strongest.?What caused this unbelievable transition? It is IT industry. And the IT revolution started with none other than INFOSYS started by Narayan Murthy.
Narayan Murthy has brought Bangalore and Karanataka in world map. He is one kannadiga everyone must be proud of. So don't you think he is better qualified for this inauguration?
Baraguru Ramachanrappa says NRN has not developed any kannada software and he is against kannada as the medium of instruction in schools. Let me ask you one thing, the kannada horatagaras starting from Mr. Ramachandrappa, will they send their children and grand children to kannada medium schools? I doubt it seriously.
Is English medium better than Kannada or is it the other way? Who are better at judging this than parents of children? And what are they doing?
In my native Sirsi which is a small town but still has 3-4 English medium schools, many children from near by villages come to Sirsi, to attend English medium schools. Either they travel everyday in buses or they stay in some relatives house. But they have to go to English medium school.
10 years ago, I had hired a maid servant Prabha to clean our house daily. She told me one day that her daughter will be going to 8th standard now and she is planning to put her in English medium school!
For all these people, English medium school is not a question of prestige. They spend so much money, taking loans in some cases, to educate their children in English medium so that their kids will not be at a disadvantage because of they are not fluent in English.
Even village people and servants have realized the significance of studying in English medium schools. Why our pro-kannada groups are not understanding it?
